Apple has finally lifted the lid on the new Photos app. For those unaware, Photos is the new Apple developed app that will be imminently replacing iPhoto and Aperture. Developers and beta testers are now able to go hands-on with the new software, but for those who aren’t so lucky, here are 5 things that make the Photos app truly amazing.

1. Importing from Aperture and iPhoto

When a new user first opens the new Photos app, they’ll have the option to import their existing photo libraries across. The process itself is easy enough to complete in just a few minutes. BN-GV031_Apple__M_20150205130553

2. Simple interface

Apple’s intent on providing users with a simple and clean interface is present in the Photos app. Everything from the menu system to the editing suite is laid out to keep both novices and seasoned users happy.

3. Editing images

By using the Edit in Photos menu, users will be able to experiment with a whole host of different editing features. There’s everything from Enhance and Retouch, as well as 8 various filters to choose from.

4. Using the Adjustments menu

To make some finer changes to your images, users will want to test the Adjustments menu. Through various sliders, it’s possible to adjust the colour and lighting on specific images.

5. Create a book

Many users will already have used iPhotos book creation tools, but the updated version within Photos is much more streamlined than before. There are numerous themes, with more available for download at a cost.

We’ll have a full hands-on guide to the new Photos app in the next issue of iCreate.
